This is an example when political correctness is beginning to go to far. This is from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/26/nvegie26.xml:
Councilors in Totnes are considering re-covering their furniture with plastic instead of leather in case it offends vegetarians.
Officials in the town, which has been referred to as Devon's answer to Glastonbury, put forward proposals to renew the peeling desks in the 16th century guildhall with plastic at a cost of £450, claiming it was cheaper and "vegetarian friendly".
But some members said the hall deserved an "upgrade" and the council should spend £680 for leather hide or £950 for sheep hide.
John Macadie, a councilor, said they had a duty to save money and not use animal products.
He said: "We should not be using animal products; we are in Totnes. Why not sand it down and then varnish it, then it will last forever. It would look very nice stained."
But the former mayor, Marion Evans, told her colleagues: "We are the custodians of this building. I think you are being cheapskates."
She said later: "It's one of the oldest buildings in Totnes and I think we should use proper furnishings."
The councilors agreed to find out the cost of sanding and varnishing before reaching a decision.
Totnes is one of England's oldest boroughs, with its charter granted by King John in 1206. In 2004 Time magazine declared the town "the capital of New Age chic".

Is the new burqua-style hospital gown being introduced in the Lancashire UK hospitals this fall, an invention of the Middle East Arabs countries?
The answer is NO! They are an invention by a British women, Karen Jacob who is the linen services manager at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The purpose is to afford religious modesty to all women who wish to be covered head to foot.
The £12 outfits - made in Yorkshire - cover the entire head, neck and body, leaving just a slot for the eyes.
The burqua-style gowns come with trousers, two styles of head-dress and elasticated cuffs to prevent women's arms from being revealed.
They will be available to patients at in Chorley and Preston from November.
The gowns were trialled at Royal Preston Hospital and proved so successful that a number of other NHS Trusts have also expressed an interest in offering them. (BBC News)
Because this idea is a first in the world of fashion, the West Yorkshire-based firm, Interweave, which makes the garments, believes the demand for the gowns could be huge. They are hoping this new polically correct fashion will appeal to the millions of women who may wish to use these modest coverings.
Now why hasn't the Muslim world think of this first?

Exposing the Truth
By Sharon Hughes
I received an email in response to Part I of Fashionable Burkas? telling me that I would do better if I loved the terrorists:
“Your jab at Muslim terrorist women for saying:
American soldiers ("filth of the earth"), the Jews ("crush them!" & "make their wives widows and children orphans")
I feel these angry words are similar to how you feel about terrorists. I would respect you if you checked your anger with humility about your own lack of love for your enemies. I feel your influence in media would do a great deal for the kingdom of Christ if you loved your enemies instead.”
While I respect this person’s right to their view, the bottom line of my answer was this:
“What is it but love to expose the lies and darkness that oppresses, enslaves or endangers …those Jesus loves and laid down his life for?”
It’s like this: Terrorists kidnap 3 Israeli soldiers, or as in the 80’s, American hostages. The Israeli and American governments do everything they can for the release of their captive countrymen. New York Police and Firemen rush into the Twin Towers to rescue the victims of 9/11. A good neighbor runs into the house on fire next door to rescue those trapped in the flames.
Love does all it can to rescue victims. Moses did in natural terms. Jesus did in spiritual terms. Love acts, and sometimes simply by telling the truth. Passivity does nothing.
The truth is… it makes me sad and angry when terrorists kill innocent people, such as on 9/11; who raise their children to hate the Jews and brainwash them into becoming suicide bombers; who lie and don’t keep their word despite countless negotiations and efforts at 'peace'; who cry for more and more land, and when Israel gives it up, they continue to attack them because their goal is to ‘wipe Israel off the map.’
Love is strong, and tough, like Dr. James Dobson writes about, and like what we use to talk about in college counseling courses. You know, the elephant in the living room that no one wants to acknowledge because of ‘family dynamics,’ ie co-dependence, fear. But tough love acknowledges the realities, confronts when needed, even when others don’t or won’t. Love does not live in denial or passivity.
The truth is…not all Muslim women suffer abuses such as these slides of “Looking Beyond the Veil” demonstrate. To lump all Muslim women in with the likes of the ‘wives of terrorists’ referred to in Part I would be very wrong. But it would also be wrong to ignore the ‘elephant’ of abuse that does exist.
Telling the truth has the power to set victims free…and yes, even the victimizers, such as our friend, Walid Shoebat. who is trying to get the truth out every chance he can on Fox News, CNN, et al, about the nature and intent of radical Islam.

“We applaud these school officials, who realized they cannot censor students based on their viewpoint, particularly when students promoting an opposing view are permitted to express their opinions freely,” said ADF Litigation Counsel Timothy Chandler.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A Springfield High School student told to remove a T-shirt stating her views on moral issues on the April 27 Day of Truth has received an apology from school officials, who informed her that she will be allowed to wear the shirt on campus in the future. On May 18, ADF attorneys sent a letter to the school administration advising them that the student’s First Amendment rights were violated when she was forced to remove the shirt.
“The First Amendment rights of students do not end at the schoolhouse gate,” said ADF Litigation Counsel Timothy Chandler. “We are pleased school officials recognized that this student’s constitutional rights had been violated.”
The student, a sophomore, wore her custom-made shirt to school with the message, “I am a Christian, and I am against homosexuality, abortion, pre-marital sex, and drugs.” Although not an official Day of Truth T-shirt, the student was one of several at Springfield High School who participated in the Day of Truth. A school official saw the shirt and told the student it was not allowed and must be removed. Other students wearing similar shirts were also asked to remove them.
The Day of Truth is an annual event that provides an opportunity for participating students to express a different perspective than the Day of Silence. The Day of Silence is promoted by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network and asks students to remain silent throughout an entire day to express their support for the homosexual agenda.
Some students at Springfield High School wore clothing supporting the Day of Silence and were reportedly allowed to continue their observance unhindered.
“Our client’s shirt did not cause a disruption or distraction of any sort on campus,” Chandler explained. “We applaud these school officials, who realized they cannot censor students based on their viewpoint, particularly when students promoting an opposing view are permitted to express their opinions freely.”
ADF is a legal alliance defending the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation.
